Interviewing artists isn’t about asking questions, it’s about connecting with them and helping them craft their personal narrative through storytelling.
Rumore Magazine is where I started my career. It’s an historic Italian alternative publication I contributed to for 6 years as a web editor, staff writer and London correspondent.
It’s where I developed my writing and interviewing skills, building out and editing its website, creating content for web and social media, writing in-depth profiles of artists and reviews.
This experience shaped my approach moving forwards—that personal taste shouldn’t be the only force driving your coverage, and that what you don’t know yet is more valuable than what you already know.
International artists I have interviewed for the publication include Arctic Monkeys, Courtney Barnett, Disclosure, Fleet Foxes, Jon Hopkins, Mac DeMarco, Sam Smith, The National, Yo La Tengo, William Basinski and lots more.
In 2016, I joined Noisey, VICE’s music vertical. There, I had the chance to be an integral part of a shift in the Italian music market, crafting storytelling opportunities for the then-rising trap and indie scenes.
The way I did it? By building out an in-depth, personal approach to interviews and coverage. Research and empathy are at the heart of what I do, paired with curiosity. And that means being on the lookout for rising talent and underground scenes, striving to be the first to cover them and give them a platform to kickstart their career.
Artists I gave their first interview to include Italian A-listers such as thasup, Rkomi, Bresh and PSICOLOGI.
